Sustainable Innovation
You are viewing one of the best stops on Hwy 71 E. The Industrial Country Market is a conglomerate of sustainability and will give you plenty of new ideas. Wholesale pricing on general items, metal art for your gardens, or off the grid demonstrations of aquaponics, solar energy, greenhouse hydroponics, rainwater harvesting, repurposed art, composting toilets; find bargain barn sales, and you can even find racks with Heirloom Bloom seeds for sale! The entire home, property and business is run off the grid. One of my personal favorite corners was the composting toilets and solar powered water and air dryer in the bathrooms. So tastefully done!
The owner Dan is very friendly and of course informational. Him and his wife run the place and built their home on the property completely off the grid. Dan offers the ability to use the site to teach classes or workshops to others, free of charge. So if you have something to teach the community send him an email. Plan time to spend at this location. You will marvel in the many corners of the creative minds at work. You may enjoy a leisurely stroll among the gardens and gain new insight for your outdoor endeavors. Your whole family will enjoy coming here and leaving with some nifty souvenirs too! Or just be on your way a little smarter with a different perspective on that leftover grill rack and a hankering to get busy on your next project.
Check the website for the most updated information on the Non General General Market store hours. At this time they are open Fri-Sun (Sept 2004). Just around the corner in La Grange and Ellington are great bakeries to get your tasty sweet tooth on while you’re taking a break from the long drive home, to your vacation destination, or a quick day trip.
